Commercial Counsel

About The Position

The Commercial Counsel will be a key member of Dotdash Meredith's legal team and have primary responsibility for managing and modernizing our process for sales and other commercial contract review and negotiation. These contracts are key to the business and require attention to detail, problem-solving and efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of IP law and contracts, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with non-lawyers. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of major law firm experience in IP transactions as well as some operational business experience.

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

50%

Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, and supervise paralegal review of certain contracts.

20%

Support the design, establishment, and maintenance of an efficient process for quick turns of contracts.

30%

Communicate with internal clients and team members, including by developing and leading trainings on Dotdash Meredith's contracting process and key legal issues.

The Role's Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements

Education:

Juris Doctor

Undergraduate degree

Experience:

Admitted to the bar of NY or IA.

3-5 + years of experience in commercial work at a nationally-recognized law firm.

Strong familiarity with IP law.

Additional Preferred Experience:

1+ years of operational business experience (either as in-house counsel or in a non-legal role)

Specific experience with IP transactions.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications and Abilities:
• The ability to work collaboratively and to engage and influence in a matrix organization.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills which can be applied to both internal and external relationships, with the ability to reconcile compliance requirements with business needs as far as is possible.
• Sound and balanced legal judgment and business awareness, with an appropriate understanding of the need to pragmatically assess risk
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adept at analyzing and interpreting laws and regulations. Attention to detail.
• An ability to clearly and succinctly explain legal issues to a non-legal audiences
• Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• An outstanding collaborator who can manage multiple agreements and tasks.
• High Ethical standards and a team attitude.

% Travel Required (Approximate): Less than 10%

Pay Range
Salary: New York: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00
