Vice President, Business Affairs (Disney Entertainment Television)
Disney Entertainment – Television is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Vice President of Business Affairs to join the ABC Signature Business Affairs team, which has recently begun covering Business Affairs for Searchlight Television. This role will negotiate and structure above the line deals, as well as participate in negotiations between the studio and its partners at networks and production companies, and other outside companies. This opportunity provides strong partnerships with senior business, creative, and finance executives in the development, production, co-production, finance, and license agreements for scripted television productions.
Responsibilities
• Structure and negotiate a wide range of high-profile entertainment-related deals and business relationships, including the acquisition and development of scripted programming, talent agreements, content licenses, rights, and acquisitions
• Negotiate and finalize agreements, including talent and rights agreements, and other contracts as necessary
• Analyze contracts in response to business questions, and provide information as necessary
• Manage relationships with agents, lawyers, and studio executives throughout the industry
• Advise business groups on a wide range of legal matters
• Participate in the establishment of policies and practices for the group
• Collaborative approach with senior business, creative, and finance executives to structure and negotiate development, production, co-production, finance, and license agreements for television productions
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years' work experience, the majority directly related to the entertainment industry
• Solid, established relationships with agents, talent lawyers, producers, and others directly involved in the entertainment, online, and legal communities
• Demonstrated knowledge of the scripted series production process
• Experience negotiating with partners at networks and production companies as well as with talent and other outside companies
• Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with a demonstrated track record of sound business and legal judgement
• Professional, confident demeanor and ability to work well in a team environment
• Extensive, hands-on experience with complex contracts
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize; proficient at time management
• Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while remaining composed
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills
• Working knowledge of television industry agreements and guild and union regulations
• Ability to support deals involving multiple, highly complex sets of agreements; manage multiple projects at a time; and creatively solve problems while under pressure
Education
• JD degree from an accredited institution preferred
The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $223,400 to $307,230 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
