Job Description
The Sr. Portfolio Manager provides strategic/tactical leadership and oversight for creating, sustaining, implementing, and driving efficient and effective project portfolio management processes in support of business objectives. The Sr. Portfolio Manager will be responsible for providing analysis, forecasting and modeling to align resource requirements to projects, programs, and key company strategies and to provide a view of where gaps exist around competencies and workforce capacity. He/she will collaborate with leaders and stakeholders from Technology, business and finance to ensure proper coordination and execution of activities related to the delivery of technology projects. You will play an integral role in building a project portfolio management (PPM) center of excellence in Technology. The position requires significant interaction with cross-functional departments within the company, collaboration across other technology portfolios, and excellent communication and relationship management skills to influence and resolve issues.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting the development of detailed reporting and tracking of projects, portfolios, programs and staffing capacity plans.
• Define, establish, and implement enhancements to IT capacity planning and resource planning to include process definition, procedural documentation, tool requirements and enhancements and end user training.
• Evaluate project requests cross-functionally and within application areas in partnership with application owners to determine resource requirements, durations, and competencies.
• Provide business analytics and data gathering to support detailed modeling of capacity planning and metrics from statistically confident projections that provide insight into future staffing related needs.
• Create provide and monitor resource and capacity reporting to support business needs.
• Create presentation packages for executive review.
• Support program and project management teams across the organization.
• Educate users and stakeholders in the value and application of PPM mechanisms to help increase adoption across the organization.
• Measure and audit project portfolio performance and ownership including project plans, project teams, project collaboration (i.e. schedule, costs, risks, issues, decisions) & project financials/forecasts.
• Collaborate with business and finance leadership to support project intake, vetting and prioritization processes.
• Collaborate with business and finance teams on analysis of in-flight and proposed projects
• Provide consistent and effective portfolio tracking and reporting (i.e. dashboards, portfolio reviews, and reports).
• Proactively collaborate with project teams, resource managers, and project leaders on resource needs and resolve resource constraints as they arise.
• Train, communicate, report and drive accurate time-tracking across IT organization. Enhance the process and reporting to ensure accuracy and quality of data.
• Perform Portfolio Management functions, project sequencing and analysis to optimize the project portfolio while minimizing resource constraints.
• Escalates resource assignment conflicts as appropriate, if needed
• Excellent critical thinking, problem solving analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail and task oriented
• Receives, verifies, and monitors resource demand and supply data accuracy and timeliness.
• Apply best practices in the areas of portfolio management.
• Ensure that portfolio benefits are defined and managed during the portfolio lifecycle.
• Facilitate and/or support coordination for project efforts that span across teams.
• Identify, track, and help resolve cross-portfolio dependencies and conflicts.
• Serve as the point of escalation for project stakeholders or requestors with issues directly related to portfolio management.
• Manage portfolio via PPM tool sets (Clarizen) and reports.
• Promote IT framework, governance, and processes.
• Understanding strategic context to integrate seemingly disparate goals into a broader plan for synchronized, harmonious execution while delivering high value to the organization.
Basic Qualifications:
• Ten years combined IT experience in project, program and portfolio management preferred.
• Successfully managed a large portfolio or program with multiple business stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization including managing through cross-business units.
• Experience in data analytics; specifically, in compiling data and building reports/dashboards.
• Excellent critical thinking, problem solving analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail and task oriented.
• Experience in implementing and maintaining accurate key performance measures relating to PMO and project management best practices such as building work breakdown structures, Waterfall/Agile/Scrum methodologies, experience with traditional SDLC methodologies.
• Solid understanding of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite and possess solid computer skills.
• Project Management Institute (PMI) certifications desired: Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP).
• Experience building and managing a project schedule in project management tools utilizing data-based decision-making (GANTT charts, etc.).
