Job Summary:
The Sr Manager, Broadcast Architecture at Disney will lead the innovation and advancement of the production technology stack, encompassing both hardware and software solutions. This role requires a deep theoretical and practical understanding of the technologies that drive the creation, monetization, and distribution of all forms of consumer-facing linear and digital video/audio content.
Responsibility includes numerous systems such as Playout Technology, Studios, Production Control Rooms, Remote Production, Post-Production, Contribution/Distribution Systems, Networking, Cloud Compute, Production Software and Virtual Environment and more.
The Sr Manager, Broadcast Architecture primarily focuses on integrating hardware and software frameworks, systems and product design functions. This includes the design, deployment and launch of 3rd party vendors and internal systems. The Senior Manager, Broadcast Architecture will conceive system interfaces and business applications prototypes. The Senior Manager, Broadcast Architecture will partner with Engineering groups around Disney to learn about the existing tech stack, identify common platforms and design an underlying architecture for use in one or more product offerings.
The Sr Manager, Broadcast Architecture position will work independently and provide multi-layered technical expertise to develop technology that efficiently and effectively delivers the requirements set forth by technical, business or operations leaders.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
• System Interface Prototypes: Develop and prototype system interfaces and business applications to ensure seamless integration and functionality across various platforms.
• Toolset Alignment: Coordinate and align toolsets across different operations, such as TAG and Evertz VIP, to ensure consistency and interoperability.
• Operator Test Plans: Create comprehensive test plans for operators to validate system functionality and performance.
• Production Needs Analysis: Acquire a deep understanding of production requirements and demonstrate multi-layered technical expertise across the media chain.
• Workflow Automation: Implement automation solutions to shape future production tools, including AI-driven workflows, to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• User Interface Design: Oversee the unification of user interfaces and design the underlying architecture to support streamlined operations and multiple product offerings.
• Software System Migration: Manage the migration process to software-based systems, ensuring smooth transitions and integration.
• System Orchestration: Orchestrate the coordination and management of various systems to optimize performance and resolve system design weaknesses.
• Resource Pooling: Leverage unified platforms to pool system resources across facilities, maximizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Streaming and Broadcast Synergies: Foster synergies between streaming and broadcast operations to create cohesive and integrated media solutions.
• Focus on integrating hardware and software frameworks and managing systems and product design functions
• Design, deploy, and launch technology solutions involving both third-party vendors and internal systems
• Collaborate with Disney's engineering teams to understand the existing technology stack, identify common platforms, and design an architecture applicable to various product offerings
• Work independently to develop, establish and approve technology solutions that meet the needs of technical, business, and operations leaders
Basic Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in Broadcast Engineering and / or System Architecture
• Identifies and resolves complex technical, operational and organizational problems.
• Experience designing Broadcast Systems and defining frameworks and architecture
• Deep understanding of architectural principles and emerging technologies.
• Experience leading large-scale projects and driving technical innovation.
• Impacts the business results by supporting and funding of projects, services, and/or technologies and developing policies and plans
Skills:
• Experience in integrating hardware and Software solutions in Broadcast
• Experience defining Processes for technical platforms, System specifications, and working parameters for hardware and software compatibility
• Proficient in SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments with a current certification such as not limited to ST 292M, ST 424M, ST 2110, ST 2059, IEE1588, ST 2022-7, SCTE-104, etc.
• Knowledge and experience with on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms and current technological offerings
• Experience working at Broadcaster and Streaming Service – knowledge about traditional production and streaming
• Experience managing 24/7 operational environments and engineering teams, managing live-broadcasts
• Provides leadership to others who lead and to Engineers
• Develops departmental plans, including business, production and / or organizational priorities
• Strong communication Skills and able to deliver projects on-time and on-budget
Required Education:
• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Broadcast Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and / or equivalent work experience
The hiring range for this position in New York is $156,300 to $209,600 per year,. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
