The Transmission Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of shift Transmission Controllers in the operation and the continued growth and development of Discovery Networks Europe's playout facility, broadcasting in excess of 100 channels in 27 languages.
The Transmission Supervisor is the primary contact for all transmission matters and is responsible for the identification and resolution of technical or operational issues.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for leading, motivating and managing a team of shift Transmission Controllers
• Responsible for the successful play-out of all Discovery channels, and that in the event of technical failure the effect on the business is minimised and the failure is remedied as quickly as possible
• Working with the Tx and Bookings teams ensure all technical and resourcing requirements are identified and implemented
• Liaises with numerous departments and uplink providers
• Daily reporting of all issues
• Attend department meetings as required
• Responsible for exceptions planning and making decisions regarding late changes if necessary.
• Server and archive management
• Confirms playlists are ready for air.
• Responsible for raising technical issues with support engineers and to ensure all details are captured and logged.
• Keep the operational area in good order to meet our own aspirations
• Ensures that all aspects of Ofcom Codes of Practice relating to the channels are observed
• Ensure that established SOPs and departmental policies are followed consistently. Perform routine analysis of the knowledge base and tools to identify & implement operational improvements.
• Such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require
• acting as ''Incident Manager'' when required to liaise with various depts and Senior Management in the event of major technical issues. To assist where needed to aid resolution.
Requirements
• Experience within a multi-channel, fully automated transmission environment
• Comprehensive live transmission events experience
• A thorough
operational knowledge of transmission technologies
• Previous experience of leading and building teams
• Experience working preferably with Grass Valley ITX and Aveco Automation systems
• Experience working in mid/large team and managing them accordingly - rostering, annual leave, performance reviews, disciplinary reviews
• Performance Management including determining goals for Lead Operators and Operators, regular coaching & reviews, and progressive performance and conduct discipline when required.
• On call overnight when their team is on night shifts

Job Dimensions
Number Direct Reports: 8 each shift.
Hours of work: 11.5hrs shift, averaging 40 hours per week over a 4 week rotation. Mainly day shifts but flexibility is needed and some nights/late shifts will be required
