About the Role
The Product Owner oversees product planning, execution, roll-out, and maintenance for a variety of Content Systems' applications and services to support the direct to consumer initiatives. This includes creating and prioritizing product and business requirements, defining the product roadmap, and working closely with business and technology teams to satisfy the product's users. The product owner plays the primary role in defining features and requirements. He/she will determine and prioritize product enhancements to meet Discovery's changing needs and adapt to current technology. The product owner must have strong analytical skills, be an excellent communicator and negotiator, and be able to work towards high-level goals with minimal oversight. The Product Owner must understand business objectives and build compelling products that meet them. He/she must be a strong team player who can build consensus within a cross-functional team while keeping everyone on task and on-schedule. The product owner must be both a listener and a negotiator, hearing the needs of business stakeholders while advocating for the product. This will require him/her to effectively collaborate across disciplines in a matrixed and geographically diverse team.

The group's focus is on enterprise application development using state of the art front end development tools and database technology. We follow an agile software development lifecycle methodology.
In addition to the direct to consumer products, we support all major revenue generating areas within Discovery including US and international linear television networks spanning dozens of countries and languages.

Responsibilities
• Create materials to guide the work of the team (user stories, business process flows, use cases, usability specifications, prototypes, code samples, etc.)
• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of business processes
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with business customers
• Work with business partners to gather process, functional, and data requirements
• Facilitate communication throughout the product development process between a variety of internal business and technology teams
• Maintain product backlog and prioritized roadmap for assigned products
• Act as a product evangelist within Discovery, making users aware of new features and benefits
• Mentor other team members and support efforts to cross-train staff to ensure proper redundancy and growth opportunities
• Manage systems analysts and review their output to ensure the quality and accuracy of analysis findings and business and system documentation
• Assist in coordinating the implementation of new system functionality into production
• Provide functional, business, and system expertise for IT projects and business systems support
• Collaborate with media operations team leads to transform business process and workflows to maximize efficiency and speed to market of content
• Assist analysts and production support team with analysis of production issues including problem identification, definition and implementation of short-term work around, and coordination of long- term software solution with development team
• Provide project management support for software releases, vendor evaluations, and assessment of business requests
• Provide functional, business, and system expertise for IT projects and business systems support
• Provide feedback for process improvements to help improve team effectiveness and efficiency
• Work with the development teams to maintain product documentation to provide easier knowledge transfer and cross-team project visibility
• Provide management with ongoing updates on team progress, velocity, and capacity, including initial project sizing, potential release scoping, and project completion projections
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or equivalent degree/work experience
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in the IT industry, with 4+ years of business, systems analysis, and/or quality assurance
• Strong preference for experience in one or more of the following; digital or broadcast media industry, video production, content management, content localization and multi-language content workflows
• Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and to ensure that overall priorities are being met
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to quickly learn key concepts and apply concepts when identifying solutions
• Ability to develop and execute simple SQL queries to produce ad-hoc reports and analyze business data
• Strong communication, critical thinking and analytical capabilities
• Strong proficiencies in MS Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and general design and project management disciplines
• Willingness to accept varying levels of responsibility in support of projects and initiatives
• Possesses understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design
• Willingness to work weekends in support of software releases
• Strong attention to detail and a high-degree of follow-through
• A love of working closely with others to empower them to excel
• Curiosity and a willingness to learn
• Must have legal right to work in the United States
