As television and media habits change, our mission remains true to the principles that founded Discovery – every day we seek to ignite people's curiosity to engage, entertain and enlighten the world around them through amazing viewing experiences. The Direct to Consumer Group is a technology company within the Discovery brand. We are building a streaming video platform and a suite of applications to support all of our network's brands globally. We build connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of Discovery owned networks (Discovery+, Food Network, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, and many more) This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to Discovery's future.

Discovery is the owner of several sports franchises in EMEA and beyond, including the Olympics, Roland Garros and golf and cycling events. These bring millions of customers to our apps, and we need to find ways to retain these customers and turn them into long term subscribers. We believe personalized recommendations is one such mechanism.

Sports Recommendations is a program to develop personalized / automated recommendations for customers interested in sports to keep them engaged with our apps throughout the year.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly with both internal and external stakeholders, organizes project timelines, secures commitments, manages risks, identifies the critical path, spots edge cases, reviews metrics & data, and monitors operations. The ideal candidate is a strong self-starter and therefore can drill into business data and research results to identify clear direction and focus for their tasks, projects and programs. They continue to move forward in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge.

The ideal candidate has had experience working with multiple partners and maintaining partner relationships. They have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects. They have experience in project management and agile development methodologies with a proven track record of delivering results. You are a collaborative partner that makes other team members around you more productive, by sharing your knowledge and providing a clear prioritized product roadmap. You provide mentoring to others.

The role of the Product Manager here is to build a program that works backwards from the needs of sports fans, and launch recommendations and other proactive notification features in our apps / offline emails to drive engagement and retention with these customers. In doing this, you will be accountable for the What and Why for Sports Recommendations and Personalization for Sports fans. You will work with the Sports PM team to build an understanding of customer needs before, during and after major events, and use these to drive your deliverables.

Responsibilities

1. Partner with key stakeholders at different Discovery brands to understand their current platform needs and anticipate future platform needs. You will need to gather and synthesize requirements from many different brands across a diverse set of geographies, timezones, and use cases into a single product roadmap that can serve them all.

2. Bring analytic rigor to decisions around product direction, priorities, and scope, describing the pros and cons of different options in a way that a distributed team can come to a decision on the right course of action.

8. Do outreach and evangelism to brands and other platform teams, maintaining and presenting the roadmap presentation for your area

9. Act as the subject-matter expert for your product area for people outside of their team.
