About the Team
As a Software Developer II , you will work on a cross - functional team that is focused on building products and capabilities to enhance both the editorial and end user experience on CNN.com. This is a great opportunity for an engineer that is passionate about building tools to communicate with
News audiences at the right place and right time. The team focuses on leveraging the latest technology to empower storytelling that reaches users across a diverse set of platforms. The team is com prised of Technical, Design and Product leads and a team of engineers that support each other through the planning, development, review, and deployment processes. You will play a crucial role on the team as you will be responsible for feature development, quality code, peer reviews, and operational support.
The Daily
• Full stack development with JavaScript, HTML, CSS incorporating semantic code, accessibility and responsive design methodologies
• Responsible for owning, implementing, developing, and maintaining complete high - priority features with thorough testing
• Work with a cross functional team in an agile environment, and contributing to Scrum, Planning, Retros, and Demos
• Support others on your team through code reviews, desk checks, and collaboration
• S eek mentorship from senior engineers and pair to resolve complex technical problems efficiently
The Essentials
• Understand engineering best practices, design patterns, reviews, testing and alerting
• Work primarily in modern JavaScript, maintaining and developing components
• Proficient on the command line in concert with Git, Docker, and AWS
• Experience with AWS infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform), monitoring tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail), and CI/CD tools (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy)
• Unit testing experience using frameworks such as Jest, Jasmine, and Mocha
• Solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms and hands - on familiarity with both client and server technology
• Passionate about improving the code base that you interact with
• Demonstrated success in rapidly learning new technologies, languages, or frameworks
• Familiarity with a wide range of languages, frameworks, platforms, and/or SDKs
• Excellent communicator with your team members and peers
• Excited to positively impact the culture of CNN, both from an interpersonal level and from a code improvement standpoint
The Nice to Haves
• Experience developing CMS platforms preferred
• Some python experience preferred
• Experience with vue.js
• Experience integrating with Marketing Technology vendors, e.g. CDP or user messaging platforms.
• Knowledge of data pipeline technologies (Snowflake/Snowpipe, Kenesis, PostgreSQL, dbt)
• A|B testing and consumer testing platform experience
• Knowledge of Operations, CI/CD, DevOps, with exposure to escalation protocols, PagerDuty,
• Kubernetes, Jenkins, CodePipeline, etc.
• Experience with alerting mechanisms and tools
