The Job

The Politics Producer for CNN Audio will lead production of a politically themed daily podcast based in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in political news coverage and analysis, and extensive experience in audio, digital and/or television news production. Due to the intense political news cycle, the candidate must be able to travel for remote recordings with the host and guests. The producer will work closely with the host, outlining the structure of each episode, incorporating the best archival audio and booking guests based on the topic of the day. S/he will oversee the editing of the final cut and will be responsible for quality control of the final product. In addition, the producer will develop the episode titles and descriptions prior to upload.

The Daily
• Partner with the host to develop the episode topics and structure, as well as identify the best guests.
• Coordinate with CNN Newsgathering to book correspondents and analysts
• Work in tandem with associate producer to integrate CNN audio into the discussion.
• Build schedule, workflow and plan travel.
• Assist with edits and QC final product.
• Oversee studio and field recording.
• Compose all episode descriptions
• Create content on social media outlets to help promote the podcast
• Write articles to accompany certain episodes
• Coordinate with technical teams on standard operating practices for recording/editing/engineering.

The Essentials
• 5+ years of experience, with preferably 2+ years in an audio
• Bachelor's degree
• Extensive knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Experience working with agility in rapidly changing environment.
• Strong collaboration, communication, excellent teamwork and team-building skills.
• Ability to thrive under pressure with diverse staff and talent
• Preferred proficiency in ProTools Basic but at the very least, a basic understanding of how to operate audio hardware and software, with a commitment to become proficient in a short period of time.
• Flexibility with operating in a 24/7 environment
• Ability to travel as needed; up to 25% annually
