Description

As Principal Data Architect, you will be the data thought leader at CNN and be responsible for creating the roadmap for the semantic layer of our Data Platform. This includes defining what goes into each layer of our Snowflake data lake, designing the data models, architecting the different data marts, as well as overall mapping of general data architecture for the different CNN verticals.

We have a large data lake that contains data that is both historical and near real-time that comes from a variety of 1st and 3rd party sources. You will be helping define and manage the data contracts between stakeholders and ensure proper standards and definitions are followed along the way.

Day to Day Responsibilities
• Have oversight of the big picture for analytics and insights which includes owning the enterprise data model and data architecture and having a thorough understanding of the data needs for various CNN verticals and domains including CNN Core and CNN+ properties
• Be responsible for anticipating and planning for what data sets will be needed by all the analytics and reporting needs as pertains to the areas of product analytics, content analytics, revenue analytics, growth product and growth marketing
• Architect and build the proper architecture for our analytics pipelines ensuring the pipelines are always performant and scalable, can handle and recover from failures gracefully and reprocessing or backfilling data is optimal and relatively painless
• Ensure the clear identification of single sources of truth for data across systems as well as partnering with the Analytics and Insights team on unified metric definitions and how best to serve up those metrics
• Be the thought leader and subject matter expert in the area of data modeling; It is expected that all analytics engineers and data analysts will come to you for advice on what constitutes optimal data models and writing performant queries and you will have to create structure for the teams and evangelize best practices
• Collaborate cross-functionally with the data PMs, engineers and the business stakeholders on all data initiatives

Specific Technical Skills
• 10+ years of experience as a Lead Data Architect having spearheaded projects that built data warehouse models at scale and with high complexity encompassing multiple varying systems
• Depth of experience and expertise in mapping data models in the realm of product analytics, content analytics and/or growth marketing and having worked in the domain of direct to consumer products
• Expertise in SQL and data modeling having worked previously as a Data Engineer and BI Engineer responsible for building data pipelines that work on hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data
• Experience operating and building in the public cloud, i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive strategic data initiatives and presenting complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience in data visualization and using tools such as Tableau, Looker, Superset, Mode, etc.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience
