Job Description
Overview and Responsibilities

CBS News Law Department seeks an experienced Senior Administrator to help clear third-party content (footage, photographs, art, music & memorabilia) for all programs produced by CBS News.
• Clearance: Negotiate rates and rights with third-party licensors for CBS News programming. Respond to time-sensitive requests from producers in fast-paced environment and under breaking news situations. Foster business relationships with third-party vendors and internal business groups. Educate production teams on matters relating to licensing, location agreements, fair use analysis and risk assessments.
• Contracts Management: Draft and review standard license and location agreements, and vet and redline third-party agreements, in consultation with the CBS News legal team. Follow up on outstanding agreements by contacting show producers and rights holders.
• Consultation: Consult with News Review Attorneys, News Standards, Race and Culture Unit and Music Operations as necessary. Provide client guidance on standard processes.
• Rights Database: Oversee the receipt and confirm the accuracy of footage & stills reports and music cue sheets from CBS News program production teams.
• Participation in On-call Rotation: Regular hours include additional morning, evening and occasional weekend shifts shared by all members to respond promptly to producers seeking assistance relating to third-party clearances, materials and location agreements and other related requests.
• Rights Memoranda: Draft and distribute CBS News program rights advisories to divisions throughout the company.
• Supervisor: Help supervise the Rights & Clearances Department Administrators.
• Rights File Maintenance: Maintain paper and electronic files, including agreements, invoices, payments, and correspondence relating to all CBS News programming. Manage rights library and e-library.
• Invoice Management: Organize, process, and track invoices and payments to copyright holders. Follow up on outstanding invoices by contacting show producers, internal finance departments and rights holders.
• Research: Research restrictions related to CBS News programming in an effort to assess a program or segment's availability for rebroadcast, streaming, sales, and distribution. Copyright ownership research.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required.
• 3+ years of equivalent work experience as a rights and clearances professional at a media company or law firm
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel (basic formulas); knowledge of PowerPoint is helpful.

• Able to meet tight deadlines, respond promptly to communications, and prioritize multiple requests.
• Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion, sensitivity and professionalism.
• Great teammate with a strong work ethic, who will work well and communicate effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, internal clients, and outside vendors and rights holders.
• Demonstrated curiosity about news and current affairs strongly preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $72,000.00 - 90,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
