IT Professional – Non Union Per Diem

KCBS2/KCAL9 is seeking a qualified IT professional whose vision, training and experience will provide strong leadership as we manage and operate a new, cutting-edge High Definition media facility in Studio City, CA. This new facility and your contributions will support our continuing transition into the converged world of Broadcasting and Information Systems Technology. Successful candidates will be part of a dynamic professional leadership team who will innovate and manage the IT operation to the next level.

Duties and Responsibilities

The IT Professional will provide direct hands on work, as well as IT project management needed in the daily operation of two major television stations. Independently identify and self-assign tasks, managing time and delivery dates of goals and project deadlines. Support, design and implement corporate LAN architecture and IT applications as they relate to the broadcast and media business. Develop strategies for improvement of existing systems and the implementation of future technologies, while coordinating vendors and project parameters. Perform the daily work needed to diagnose and improve: IT media, and content management systems, including transcoders, servers, routers, workstations, gateways, and network. Must be available via phone to answer questions during off hours, and be available for weekend or night work in cases of emergencies or project deadlines. Work with vendors, as well as our corporate staff, to develop and implement media technology and broadcast systems in accordance with corporate policies and goals. Create documentation and provide training to operators and management based on software standards and work flow functionality. Organize and select software products, keeping track of upgrades and vendor suggestions and support mechanisms. Interface with broadcast engineering maintenance staff to facilitate proper IP communication between controller systems and on-air broadcast systems. Maintain awareness of the IT technology edge as it relates to our business. Regularly propose, select, and implement IT/broadcast solutions to provide cost benefit, or improvements in content production and distribution.

Minimum Job Requirements:
• University level degree from an accredited institution in an engineering or computer science/IT discipline is preferred.
• A proven track record of successful IT-related employment/experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Ability to self manage time, deliverables, and vendors Ability to identify and schedule personal work directives based on observed daily operation, items in need of repair, and assigned projects. Strong communication skills between peers, managers and departments. Knowledge of large-scale networking, IP routers, metadata, subnet masking, V-LANs, SQL database structures/management, VM-Ware Sphere, client-server concepts, media file transcoding, port management, firewall, MPEG, media archiving, metadata, AD implementation, MOS protocol, SNMP, and browser applications. Able to troubleshoot PC and MAC platforms and applications including web based browser systems, email, and firewall coordination with vendors. Experience in media and content management systems and minimum of 10 years of direct work in IT, networking, servers, and databases. Knowledge of Linux. Clear understanding of current wireless (WiFi/Bluetooth/4G) system protocols and future system architectures. Familiarity with security software, DMZ, applications and commonly used encryption algorithms, raid structure, NAS, SAN. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to work well with people and explain complicated concepts. Detail oriented, self directed, and adaptable to execute and manage changes. Responsibility oriented.
