CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) and CW50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated in the #15 television market Detroit, is searching for a highly qualified great teammate for the position of Broadcast Engineering Technician. In this role, the Broadcast Technician will be responsible for equipment operation to support the CBS News Detroit stream and broadcast. Must join the IBEW union, if not a current member.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate a wide range of studio, news, and control room systems, including live production automation (e.g., Sony ELC), bonded cellular receive systems, studio camera controls, audio consoles, wireless mic/IFB systems, and teleprompters.
• Monitor and maintain video broadcast equipment, ensuring timely identification and resolution of technical issues.
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as patching, upgrading, rebooting, and confirmation all broadcast systems are accurately configured and ready for live operation.
• Engage vendor support to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
• Provide hands-on technical support for broadcast hub operations, live streaming workflows, and select building systems.
• Support breaking news and weather cut-ins, including assisting the News Department with crawls and urgent bulletins.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership and teammates to solve and resolve technical challenges.
• Lead or assist with projects involving the replacement and integration of new technology.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Master Control or Studio Production Technical Director.
• Proficiency in operating studio, news, and control room systems, including Sony ELC, satellite, microwave, and bonded cellular receive systems, camera controls, audio consoles, wireless mic/IFB systems, and teleprompters.
• Proficient with Windows Server operating systems and working in both static and DHCP IP-based environments.
• Strong solving skills under pressure, especially with systems critical to broadcast and live streaming.
• Proven understanding of computer networking, broadcast automation, and workflow systems.
• Experience with transmission technologies including microwave, satellite, and bonded cellular systems.
• Familiarity with non-linear editing systems; experience in audio, camera, or graphics operations is a plus.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• A college diploma or university degree in a related technology or communications field is preferred
