Job Description
The Marketing Acquisition & Campaign Services (MACS) team is a performance driven digital marketing team that provides in-house strategy, activation, operations, and analytic support to brands across all of Paramount Global. This includes overseeing the implementation of technology and capabilities across the company's streaming portfolio.

About:

As Director of Search Engine Optimization for the CBS News team you will be reporting directly into the VP of Growth. This role will be responsible for overseeing the execution of, and performance reporting for, our SEO strategy across CBS News national and local properties. This role will work in conjunction with other members of the marketing, product, and technology teams to prioritize tasks and implement strategies. The role will serve as the internal subject matter expert for all aspects related to organic search and be the point person for SEO initiatives for the company's news products.

Responsibilities:
• Help to organize and lead an SEO-first strategy for the company's news platforms. Incorporating organic search philosophy, attributes, and optimization opportunities at all stages of content introduction and product adjustments.
• Operate as an extension of the news content and product teams to provide recommendations and implement strategies in coordination with SEO goals – general and keyword specific.
• Handle all metadata creation, internal linking recommendations, and necessary day to day adjustments.
• Prioritize and translate technical recommendations to the engineering team and communicate progress.
• Conduct ad hoc SEO audits as needed, including measuring keyword positions, search volume and overall site visibility and ranking using defined SEO tools
• Conduct SEO training sessions as needed.
• Serve as the point of contact for all SEO matters both internal and external.
• Ensure that brand and business strategies are properly aligned with performance, optimization goals, and technical requirements.
• Manage internal teams to set priorities and drive on-site optimization.
• Oversee and manage all SEO resources as applicable to technical/site architecture attributes, content optimization, link acquisition/management and app presence.
• Keep pace with SEO and digital marketing industry trends and developments.

Requirements:
• Experience with news SEO and competing for top stories
• Flagging trending stories and suggesting sidebars on major search topics and breaking news stories
• Providing real-time search guidance across CBSNews.com verticals
• Monitor SERP performance of live blogs and other high profile content, providing real-time guidance on how to improve rankings
• Monitor SEO traffic daily & flag any significant fluctuations to editorial and product leadership
• Create and maintain an SEO content calendar to help plan SEO sidebars for planned events
• Monitor site health and top trends via Search Console
• Understanding of how all major search crawlers operate and how to fix any issues that may arise for those crawlers
• Clear grasp of how all major engines render sites and how to address any rendering issues
• Able to utilize 3rd party tools to crawl sites manually and then identify and fix any found issues (e.g. Screaming Frog)
• Experience with Schema.org structured data and how to leverage it for different types of search results, including video
• Understanding of the importance of page signals and their prioritization
• Experience with researching and diagnosing site problems and then effectively communicating to the relevant product team how to fix them.
• Able to effectively identify important optimization opportunities and communicate to key decision makers why they need to be added to the product
• Able to monitor the health of all relevant sites, using 1st party resources as well as 3rd party tools (e.g. Little Warden, etc)

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree is required
• 5+ years' experience in Search Engine Optimization in the news vertical
• Willingness to continually monitor and educate oneself on the search and streaming industries
• Proficient in HTML / CSS and a deep understanding of how JavaScript-based front-end frameworks and libraries affect crawling and rendering for search engines
• Attention to detail and the ability to effectively multi-task
• Effective communicator able to present complex and highly technical topics to all levels of leadership
• Excellent analytical, organizational, project management and time management skills
• Significant knowledge of the fundamentals – content, technical and reputation SEO pillar
• Ability to lead and develop teams

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $150,000.00 - 175,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
