The Role

Are you the person in your group chat who always gets asked to explain the latest celebrity drama? Do you know the lore behind everything from Miss Flo to Todd Kraines? Then this role could be for you.

The BuzzFeed UK Celeb Fellowship is a six–month–long programme that will help aspiring writers develop and hone their skills. The ideal candidate will be fascinated by social media, entertainment, and celebrity-centered conversations taking place both on and offline - from breaking celeb news, to topical roundups.

You'll be working closely with our Celebrity Reporters to produce exciting, fresh written content on all things pop culture. You'll be pitching ideas, taking assignments, brainstorming, collaborating, and writing dozens of stories that will be published to BuzzFeed.com and promoted across our social channels.

This is a remote-based role for writers based in the UK. The deadline to apply for this fellowship is Friday, September 6th, 2024 by 5 PM EST. The intended (and tentative) start date for this Fellowship is Monday, September 30th, 2024.

You Have

We're looking for someone with an all-encompassing love for celebrities who has a broad understanding of the pop culture landscape. You should also have:
• An eye for trending topics and conversations online
• A positive, creative, and playful approach to work
• A passion for writing and telling stories in a way that engages audiences
• Curiosity and excitement about social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.)
• An ability to be objective on any and all celebs - even when it comes to your faves!
• An interest in creating content for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other diverse communities

In addition, you should demonstrate the following:
• Adaptability while reporting on a range of different topics
• Ability to handle feedback and improve from it
• Eagerness to collaborate and brainstorm ideas with others
• Ability to interpret key audience data points relating to your work and use it to adapt and evolve your approach moving forward
• You don't need to have worked professionally, but proven writing experience is advantageous
