BlueBolt is an award-winning visual effects company. It specialises in compositing, computer graphics and digital matte painting for film and television productions. Over the past thirteen years BlueBolt has worked on many projects including Game of Thrones, The Little Drummer Girl, Skyfall, Peaky Blinders, The Northman and The Peripheral. BlueBolt has won both BAFTA and VES awards.

We are looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to help maintain and support the company’s computer infrastructure so that it runs smoothly, efficiently and securely. You will have significant experience managing servers, networks, both on premise and in the cloud, and you will have a high level of experience with working with Linux and Mac OSX. Whilst your focus will be technical, you should have experience leading a Systems team or managing team projects using agile methodologies, and will enjoy sharing knowledge and promoting team cohesion.

You will be part of a friendly, collaborative team supporting the company’s artists.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to devops best practices and technical excellence
  • Install, configure & upgrade software, server & network infrastructure
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
  • Be available for after-hours support and attending our data centres
  • Ability to quickly and calmly investigate and fix technical issues
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups, firewalls
  • Provide technical leadership alongside other senior team members
  • Plan sprints, run Systems retrospectives with the help of the Tech coordinator.
  • Managing Systems roadmap with input from team
  • Team visibility and recognition
  • Maintain internal technical documentation
  • Work with outside contractors
  • Report to the CTO


Experience and Skills – Required:

  • Good working knowledge of Linux (Centos)
  • Knowledge of IP networks, subnets, routing and network services (NFS, DNS, DHCP, LDAP)
  • Creating using and optimising VMs and containers
  • Experience using cloud services (AWS)
  • Knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls and VPNs
  • Well organised and with good time management
  • Tech mentoring, adoption and alignment
  • Technical Spikes and experiments
  • Production Issues Escalation
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical people
  • Ability to create effective, reusable scripts in Python or Bash


Experience and Skills - Nice to have:

  • Monitoring disk usage and maintaining disk storage technologies
  • Supporting a render farm (Deadline)
  • Knowledge of security best practice
  • Procurement and Capital Expenditure planning.
  • Software licensing
