Social Media Freelancer – Big Ten Network
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Big Ten Network is looking for a Social Media Freelancer to join their team on a part-time basis either in the Chicago office or remotely. As the Social Media Freelancer, your responsibilities will include working closely with existing staff and posting content to various social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) during Big Ten Football and basketball seasons. This is a freelance, seasonal position offering roughly 40 hours per week with a start date on/around August 19 and an end date of April 30.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Live clipping and posting of Big Ten events, including football and men's and women's basketball
• Create off-deadline social content for Olympic sports during the fall, winter, and spring seasons
• Assist in providing daily and in-game social media content to boost overall coverage (including linear TV shows and events)
• Research an existing Big Ten Network video archive to create relevant social content, including old interviews, classic games, and big moments
• Monitor social media for news and Big Ten content and share it from Big Ten Network accounts
• Monitor14 Facebook Groups and be active in sharing content and engaging group members
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Sport Management undergraduate track
• At least 1-2 years of experience in social media, communications, or marketing
• Must be able to work flexible hours, which will include nights and weekends
• Deep knowledge of Big Ten Football and Basketball
• Familiarity with Big Ten Network's programming, talent, and brand initiatives
• Detailed knowledge and experience on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
• A strong handle of grammar, punctuation, syntax, and a Twitter voice
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen editorial sense
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to be detailed-oriented and a proactive and a team player
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on deadline
• Always connected and tuned into the latest Big Ten football and basketball news
• Photoshop knowledge
• Passionate for social media and evolution of technology
