Who You Are
We are seeking a passionate and skilled FX Artist to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong technical and artistic background, with an eye for realism and a deep understanding of physics, dynamics, and simulations. As an FX Artist, you will be responsible for creating a range of complex and visually captivating effects that support the storytelling and overall visual quality of our projects.
What You'll Do
• Design, create, and implement high-quality FX simulations (fluid, smoke, fire, dust, explosions, particle effects, etc.) across shots and sequences.
• Develop and optimize FX setups and toolsets in Houdini, Maya, or other industry-standard tools.
• Create realistic simulations, including pyro, smoke, rigid body, and rigid body destruction.
• Collaborate closely with artists, animators, and supervisors to solve complex visual and technical challenges.
• Maintain continuity across shots, ensuring FX work meets creative, technical, and schedule requirements.
• Troubleshoot and debug FX setups, providing clean and efficient scene files for the pipeline.
• Stay current with the latest industry techniques and implement new methods or tools when applicable.
• Participate in review and feedback sessions, iteratively refining effects based on notes from leads and supervisors.
What You Bring
• 3-5+ years of experience in the VFX or film production industry
• Intermediate - Advanced dynamics and simulations with Houdini (required) and Arnold renderer is highly preferred.
• VEX, Python coding a plus
• Understanding of physical principles (fluid dynamics, particle behavior, collisions, etc.).
• Proficient in shader creation, lighting, and rendering as it relates to FX elements.
• Strong artistic sensibility combined with solid technical problem-solving abilities.
• An excellent grasp on physics in the natural world.
• An excellent understanding of physics in the natural world demonstrated on reel.
• Experience with ingesting upstream assets and applying their materials in Houdini.
• Experience with asset layout and scene + node graph optimization in Houdini.
• Experience with lighting & creative look development in Houdini.
• A thorough understanding of television/ episodic VFX production pipelines in live action episodics ( feature film a plus).
• Knowledge VFX Software 2D/3D packages is considered an asset
About This Role
This is a remote based role. Project and staff positions available with extended health benefits and opportunity to participate in RRSP programs. The posted pay range is aligned with what we believe is fair pay at the time of posting this role. An applicant's relevant education, experience, skills and qualifications, location and currency may all be considered when deciding pay position within the range.
