Costume Shop Coordinator
Hours Variable - 10-29 hours per week by pre-approval of Costume Director
Position Summary:
The Costume shop coordinator reports directly to the Costume Director. Duties of the Costume Shop Coordinator are to repair and maintain quality condition of costume stock. Additionally the coordinator will assist in with fittings, alterations, research, shopping and paperwork. Must have car and valid driver’s license.
Essential Duties:
• Building & Construction of costumes
Following directives of the Costume director to cut & follow a pattern
Make adjustments as needed in patterns for sizes
Repair torn costumes
Adjust costumes to fit actors per fittings
Be available for fittings as needed by Costume Director
General mending of stock costumes
• Project Communications& Timelines
Be able to meet daily and weekly deadlines and notify Costume Director
with any deadline problems
Daily updating of project status to Costume Director
• Other Related Duties
Keep work areas such as cutting tables, sewing machine stations, in a neat and orderly fashion
Notify Costume Director of damaged or broken items
Errands to purchase notions, sewing supplies and fabrics as needed
Submit a weekly work schedule for approval of the Costume Director each week by Wednesday
• Prepare Expense Reports when applicable
Prepare and submit requisition forms for reimbursement of approved purchases, and mileage. Submit to the Costume Director or Production Manager for approval and signature.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
Basic patterning and draping skills
Five years or equivalent experience in sewing and costume construction
Knowledge of history, theatre and period costumes
Knowledge of correct storage and handling of costumes
