Paralegal Specialist

Job Description

We are searching for a Paralegal Specialist to support primarily ABC News in matters related to production (for television, audio and digital platforms), digital distribution of content, promotion, publicity, ecommerce and merchandising, sponsorships and events.

Responsibilities:

The DGE Legal Affairs group of the Walt Disney Company Legal Department is seeking a Paralegal Specialist with extensive experience in negotiating and drafting a variety of production agreements and managing the contract process. Additionally, the responsibilities of the Paralegal Specialist include; assisting the team in content review and clearances, event location negotiations, digital distribution of news content, ecommerce and merchandising arrangements, negotiation for sponsorship packages relating to content and special projects as may be necessary. The Paralegal Specialist will report to the team's Deputy Chief Counsel or Assistant Chief Counsel and support that person, as well as the other attorneys on the team.

The successful candidate must be an organized, detail-oriented person with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, including senior level executives and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a sense of humor and interacting well with all levels of personnel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform responsibilities as a Paralegal Specialist in the areas of drafting and negotiating production agreements, including above- and below-the-line talent, production services agreements, program acquisition agreements, program licenses, confidentiality agreements, location agreements, clip licensing, materials releases, equipment rentals, and other related production agreements.
• Assist attorneys in reviewing, drafting and negotiating arrangements for the digital distribution of ABC News content and sponsorship packages relating thereto.
• Assist attorneys in drafting and negotiating arrangements relating to ecommerce and merchandising for the ABC News division.
• Oversee each stage of the contract process with a focus on proactive communication with the business lead and legal lead and management of the process to ensure timely and accurate contract execution.
• Assist with deal interpretation questions under the supervision of an attorney.
• Ensure compliance with direction from attorneys and company policies and procedures.
• Work with the business and legal leads to prioritize and track the status of agreements and other matters in the workflow process.
• Respond to inquiries; raise and escalate legal issues as necessary and negotiate deal points.
• Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic Qualifications:
• Television production experience and familiarity with production and programming agreements required.
• Interact well with all levels of personnel.
• Work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to handle a high volume of work and work through projects with minimal supervision.
• Must have the ability to be flexible in all work situations.
• Must have superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload efficiently and effectively.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical and organizational skills.
• Must be detail oriented, with accurate input and proofreading skills.
• Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding environment while effectively managing deadlines.
• Self starter with ability to multi-task, excellent work ethic and commitment to professionalism and collaboration.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree, paralegal certification or equivalent experience at a law firm or media company (J.D.'s will be considered)
