Job Description
Position is responsible for providing legal counsel to internal production groups, including Category 6 MediaTM and the Six West Media groupTM on day-to-day production related matters and overseeing complex, high-risk and experimental matters in the areas of pre-broadcast review, intellectual property; 1st Amendment; causes of action common in entertainment and media industry cases, including privacy and defamation; to perform legal analysis, risk assessment, issue spotting, and ongoing support. Position reports to VP, Legal & Business Affairs, as part of the Legal Risk and IP team.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Pre-Broadcast and Production Counseling:

Work collaboratively with the Content and Risk team, as well as independently, in advising production teams on legal risk and viability of program concepts, program content and marketing campaigns, working closely with creative teams to find creative and business-minded solutions to legal and other impediments to program concepts.

Agreement Negotiation and Clearance Review:

Interface with legal counsel for rights holders and program participants to negotiate and revise appearance, location, and materials releases. Partner with programming attorneys to identify and resolve areas of risk in production agreements and clearances for high-risk, sensitive and novel programming.

General Legal Advice and Risk Management:

Anticipate and analyze legal and other risk factors and counsel clients in connection with longer-range projects and urgent and emergency matters where legal, reputational, or safety and security risks need to be evaluated and solutions executed.

YOUR STORY
• 4-6 years of legal practice desirable; minimum two years relevant law firm experience or 2 years' experience in production company legal department; in-house media law practice highly desirable
• Experienced attorney with expertise in pre-broadcast review, intellectual property; 1st Amendment; causes of action common in entertainment and media industry cases, including privacy, defamation; to perform legal analysis, risk assessment, issue spotting, and ongoing support of A+E Networks. Work closely with creative executives in programming and marketing, IP and litigation attorneys, Standards and Practices team, and others.
• Must have highest level oral and written communication skills and ability to handle high volume of projects simultaneously.

Required Education and Admissions:
• J.D., admitted to New York Bar​

Please note project assignment associates are engaged to provide service to A+E Networks on a temporary basis in connection with a specific project. Project assignment associates are hired and employed through a third party vendor with a duration/tenure of no longer than eighteen (18) months.
