POSITION OVERVIEW

The Episodic Intern is charged with providing support to the Episodic Program at the Sundance Institute. Interns participate in department activities, including the screenplay review process, with the goal of learning how to track submissions, evaluate episodic material, and provide feedback for work-in-progress pilot scripts. Additionally, interns will gain insight into the TV industry and sharpen professional skills as essential members of the Episodic team.

The internship dates are June 2022 through December 9, 2022 with a required commitment to work 20 hours per week.
Offering one of the few training grounds for independent voices to develop an original series and pilot script, the Sundance Institute Episodic Program provides artists with the tools, training, and industry access to move their projects and careers forward. Working closely under the direction of Episodic Program Manager, the Episodic Intern supports Sundance Institute’s commitment to supporting emerging storytellers and diverse voices in the episodic space.

This internship will focus on:
• Developing an understanding for the craft of Episodic Storytelling by supporting the Episodic Program.
• Learning to write industry standard coverage and provide valuable feedback on scripts and other materials.

Through this internship, the participant will…
• Assist in the submission and feedback process for Episodic Lab by writing feedback summaries on assigned projects and presenting them during team meetings.
• Research and track up-and-coming writers and creators that apply to our programs or are recommended by readers.
• Read and evaluate work-in-progress pilots.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Reading, tracking, and evaluating multiple drafts of original pilot scripts written by supported artists and Lab applicants.
• Providing logistical support for year-round department events and Sundance Film Festival preparations.
• Preparing documents and other materials for departmental events and programs.
• Responding to general inquiries from the public through phone calls and emails sent to the department’s email account.
• Assisting applicants through navigation of the website, program elements, and Lab application process.
• Maintaining FilmFreeway, SurveyMonkey, Netsuite, and Insightly databases with required and updated applicant information.
• Managing RSVPs and other communications for events.
• Creating reports on Episodic Program alumni or other assigned groups.
• Assisting with the creation of presentation materials, including powerpoint decks.
• Other duties as assigned.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Comprehensive understanding of Google work apps and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive and attentive to detail.
• A strong interest in TV and digital episodic content.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
• Degree or working towards a degree in television or film.
• Experience working with databases.
