Managing Editorial

The Managing Editorial department is responsible for the in-house editorial process of making manuscripts into bound books after acquisition. The department is responsible for maintaining and modifying the production schedules, hiring, and overseeing the work of freelancers (typesetters, copy editors, proofreaders), and proofreading and routing jackets and manuscripts.

Some responsibilities may include proofreading covers, front matter, and corrections, submitting corrections, creating back ads, helping with eBook transmittals, working on bound galley materials for originals, helping to maintain schedules and printing reports, and attending production meetings.

Production Editorial
Oversees the copyediting, proofreading, and indexing of titles across our adult and children's imprints. Production editors review text, proofread jackets and manuscripts, and hire and oversee the work of freelancers. Collaborating with editorial, art/design, and various departments, our production editors confirm all corrections are properly made before the manuscript goes to print.

Some responsibilities may include copyediting and proofreading various materials including TI sheets, reader guides, cover copy, marketing materials, eBook files, eBook quality assurance, learning how to slug (check changes), assisting with freelancer communication and attending book scheduling meetings.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS

Penguin Random House offers an immersive 20-week PAID, REMOTE internship opportunity through the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, available in our adult, children's, and corporate divisions. Interns will have the opportunity to learn how to create publicity campaigns, work on projects to develop skills in publicizing books and receive robust training from our publicity teams to support professional growth. Our interns are also exposed to the publishing process and our business through panels, networking events, and a mentoring program!

What you study does not matter! We are looking for your desire to work with books, your drive to learn and your curiosity for the publishing industry.

REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
• Must be ready to work full-time on or before June 2025 (You do not need to be enrolled in college or have a degree to apply to our internship program).
• Able to work 21 hours/week throughout the program
• Available and commit to the program working September 15th, 2024 – November 22nd , 2024 AND January 13th, 2025 – March 21st , 2025
• Must reside in the US for the duration of the internship program
• Must be over the age of 18

Interns are paid $20/hour.
