Job Description
The PBS DEI Office works with internal and external stakeholders in celebrating all cultures, backgrounds, and lived experiences (i.e., with respect to ethnicity, religion, age, gender, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability, geographic region, socioeconomic status, and other dimensions of identity). The Intern will provide support for the DEI Office, including but not limited to assisting with the coordination of events and initiatives; preparing emails, presentations, virtual books, and other correspondence; and collaborating with the team on research and analysis projects. To be successful in this role, candidates need a positive and holistic leadership style that inspires trust.Time Commitment: 40 hrs./week, May 28, 2024 – August 23, 2024
Undergraduate students receive $15/hour, graduate students receive $17/hour
Key Responsibilities/Projects:
• Coordinate, collaborate, and create with the DEI Office, PBS s taff , and/or stakeholders outside of PBS staff to create an environment where everyone feels as though they are seen, heard, and valued.
• Research, write, and finalize messaging, handbooks, and other documentation for the team, including PowerPoint slides and other graphics, written, video, and/or audio presentations.
• Assist with the coordination of events and initiatives such as cultural celebrations, professional development panels, networking opportunities, mentoring initiatives, team retreats, restorative circles, trainings, mindfulness sessions, and presentations which are open to everyone.
• Collaborate with Employee Resource Groups, which are open to everyone, and other stakeholders to organize events and initiatives as requested .
Skill Intern Will Acquire:
• Increased knowledge of the public media system and PBS.
• Increased knowledge and application of best practices that support an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and appreciated.
• Experience with restorative circles, design thinking, project management, collaboration, storytelling, public speaking, and active listening.
• Improved self-awareness, self-regulation, and emotional intelligence.
Skills Required
• Background and/or interest in diversity, inclusion, equity, organizational change, public policy and management, multicultural studies, restorative practices, metrics and/or social justice.
• Experience in filmmaking, video editing, and/or graphic design a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including outstanding research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and proactively address issues.
• Must be able to handle materials and information with confidentiality and resilience.
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in an accredited college, university, or law school .
