The Content Operations & Innovation organization at Netflix supports content to thrill members with efficient operational workflows and execution while leveraging our scale and innovating to deliver more value on screen. Within this organization, we are looking to host one intern on the Books & IP (Intellectual Property) Scouting team during Summer 2024. The Netflix IP Scouting team sits at the intersection of television/film and the broader world of IP, from books, to video games, to podcasts, and more. We are responsible for identifying and acquiring IP for the purpose of adaptation, and working hand-in-hand with Netflix content teams and producer deals around the world to help curate such material for their specific television and film slates.

The IP Scouting intern should -first and foremost- love to read books and consume other media! And not only that, but talk about it AND have an authentic point of view (positive AND negative) about it.

As an intern, you'll sit at the center of an international team, and assist in managing our administrative tools and responsibilities; the day-to-day work identifying and acquiring books and IP from around the world; and take on special research projects for the team as it continues to grow and expand into new territories and corners of the intellectual property universe.

You do not need prior experience to apply; once you submit your application, you'll receive an email inviting you to complete your application by filling out an Airtable form. You'll also be asked to submit a two-paragraph 300-word-maximum statement of intent (preferably in PDF format) within the form using the following prompt:

First paragraph: What is a piece of IP that you think should be adapted? Why and in what format? Who should adapt it?

Second paragraph: Tell us about an adaptation you think is better than the source material. Why?

Who are you?
• A currently enrolled student with authorization to work in the USA and an expected graduation date between December 2024 and May/June 2025 (if undergrad)
• Must have a passion for TV/film/pop culture and reading, and have knowledge and passion for at least one out of several areas in the IP marketplace (books, podcasts, comic books, graphic novels, webtoons, video games, etc.)
• Curious about the wide world of IP, interested in learning the taste of others, and harbors a desire to see other facets of the market at-large (deal-making, authors/creators of note, buzzworthy books, and IP already being developed around town).
• Have the ability to effectively communicate and express your informed opinions on IP you love (and hate!)
• Must be collaborative and able to work in an ''all hands on deck'' environment
• Must be self-motivated and able to take initiative to work independently
• Has the ability to maintain confidentiality and utmost discretion while being privy to sensitive information
• Have a commitment to diverse and inclusive storytelling
• Must reside in the Los Angeles area for the duration of the internship (relocation and housing support will be provided)
• Note: Selected candidates must comply with federal, state, and local laws with respect to COVID-19 requirements and protocols (including, but not limited to rules regarding masking and vaccines), Netflix policies, and any of the industry return-to-work agreements that govern same.

What might you do?
• Identify and evaluate books and intellectual property (articles, short stories, podcasts, video games, etc.) for adaptation potential
• Take on special projects: research and compile information, reports, and lists based on content team targets and areas of interest
• Help manage the team's administrative tools and databases
• Assist and shadow the IP Scouting team in their day-to-day operations
• Learn Netflix tools and how to operate within the Netflix culture
• Learn about the acquisition and development process for all kinds of IP across series and feature films
• Build relationships with partner teams across the company
• Learn about the larger IP-to-film marketplace (authors to know, trends to track, etc.)

The Summer Internship

At Netflix, we offer a personalized experience for interns, and our aim is to offer an experience that mimics what it is like to actually work here. We match qualified interns with projects and groups based on interests and skillsets, and fully embed interns within those groups for the summer. Internships are paid and are a minimum of 12 weeks, with a choice of a couple fixed start dates in June to accommodate varying school calendars. Conditions permitting, our summer internships in 2024 for Content will be located in our Los Angeles, CA, office.

We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific internship team, degree, and years of education to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.

The overall market range for Netflix Internships in Content is typically $20/hour - $40/hour.
