Job Description

Academic Year Internship Program:

• Program Dates: September 16, 2024 – April 18, 2025
• Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.
• Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from New York, NY.

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
• Media Group, Data Engineering: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Data Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. As a Data Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced data engineers to support the development and maintenance of data pipelines, data integrations, and data infrastructure. You will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of data solutions, and gain hands-on experience with various data engineering tools and technologies. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting while contributing to the success of our data-driven initiatives.
• NBC Entertainment, Data Engineering: Our Data Engineering program is designed to provide interns with real-world data engineering experience, using state of the art tools and technologies. Working as part of our data engineering team, interns will help to design and develop custom decision sciences products for the media industry. Interns will acquire specific responsibilities, goals, and timelines aligned with the teams in which they are embedded. Join us as we collaborate across our business to design and implement engineering solutions that drive data-enhanced strategic decisions.
• Peacock Data Engineering, Machine Learning: As part of the Direct-to-Consumer Decision Sciences team, the ML Engineer Intern will be responsible for supporting the creation of a connected data ecosystem that unleashes the power of our streaming data, as well as operations for machine learning models created by data scientists. We gather data from across all customer/prospect journeys in near real-time, to allow fast feedback loops across territories; combined with our strategic data platform, this data ecosystem is at the core of being able to make intelligent customer and business decisions. In this role, the ML Engineer Intern will support responsibilities in the development and maintenance of an optimized and highly available data pipelines that facilitate deeper analysis and reporting by the business, as well as provide support to the data science team to enable them to run machine learning models in a robust & resilient manner.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
• Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through April 2025). December 2024 graduates are not eligible for our 2024-2025 Academic Year Program.
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to April 2025). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to April 18, 2025.
• Must be willing to work in New York, NY.

Desired Characteristics:
• Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and retrieval.
• Basic understanding of data structures, algorithms, and database concepts.
• Previous experience or coursework related to data engineering, data management, or database systems is a plus.
• Working knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: Python, R, Pyspark, Angular, JavaScript.
• Working knowledge of Distributed Computing environments.
• Experience working in cloud computing environment, designing solution architecture.
• Experience with Machine Learning and/or statistical modelling
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.
• Familiarity with data visualization techniques (knowledge of BI tools a plus: Tableau, Domo, etc.).
• Experience or familiarity building and deploying ML pipelines: training models, feature development, regression testing.
• Experience or familiarity with graph-based data workflows using Apache Airflow.

Additional Information

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $35.00

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING US UNIVERSITIES:

To participate in NBCUniversal's 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional ''Fall'' and ''Spring'' semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school's International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program.

Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
