Editorial Intern, People

The ideal PEOPLE intern is resourceful, independent, and can take initiative when necessary. They are a team player with more than a passing familiarity with the lives of famous people, and an interest in current events and social issues.
The intern will report on stories for People.com, interviewing subjects and covering events-and fact-check and research stories for the weekly magazine, often under intense deadline pressure.

Responsibilities may include:
• Writing pre-writes for People.com
• Covering events, like press junkets and red carpets
• Monitoring and transcribing other media for content suggestions, like talk shows, podcasts, etc.
• Helping during live events, like awards shows
• Working on planning documents, like events calendars
• Interviewing celebrities
• Pitching story ideas
• Fact-checking stories for the print issue
• Writing and reporting on stories in the front-of-book sections of the magazine
The ideal candidate should have experience at a campus publication or as an editorial intern. They should be a creative thinker, self-starter, professional, resourceful and a team player. Strong writing skills are a must. The candidate must also be enthusiastic and see the big picture, while paying close attention to detail-a thinker and a doer. The candidate must enjoy working in a fast-paced, news-driven environment and feel comfortable using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok as reporting tools. Due to the nature of news, some late evening and weekend work will be required.
