WPVI-TV (6abc) Community Engagement Intern, Summer/Fall 2024About the Role & Program
WPVI-TV is an ABC-owned television station (OTVS) located in a state-of-the-art facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 6abc/Action News, is Philadelphia's #1 source for news! For more than 50 years Action News has been bringing the biggest stories of the day to viewers in the Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey, currently representing more than 8 million people!
What You Will Do
We crafted this internship to provide one student with a general understanding of the many facets of Community Engagement within the fast-paced media industry.
As an intern our team, you will work in a professional environment and will gain hands-on experience. You will be exposed to initiatives and events we originate at 6abc. You will also be provided with a view of all aspects of television long-form production and operations of the Community Engagement department. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.
Some of your projects with the WPVI-TV (6abc) Community Engagement team may include:
• Attend community engagement meetings (virtual & in-person)
• Assist with production of the station's campaigns & initiatives and studio and taped long-form productions
• Social media management and writing PSA & digital copy
• Coordinate and participate in Zoom calls, email, and phone with the 6abc community and corporate partners
• Connecting with community-based non-profit organizations, and the communities that interact with and are supported by 6abc
Required Qualifications & Skills
• A curiosity about pursuing a career in television/multi-media field
• Television writing and proficiency in video editing using Adobe Premier Pro
• Ability to manage & prioritize multiple assignments in a highly dynamic environment
• Good news judgment and effective communication skills
• Strong, ongoing knowledge of long-form TV & video production
• Has attention to detail
• Flexibility and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Prior experience working in an office setting, including answering emails
• Social media proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in community engagement, corporate citizenship & social responsibility, event planning, urban development, or social media/branding a plus.
• Major or previous coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major
• Proficient in Zoom meeting coordination
• Prior TV or Video production internship
Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• The approximate dates of this internship are June 2024 through January 2025
• Fully available for the duration of the internship, working 20 hours each week
• Able to provide own housing for the duration of internship program in the Philadelphia, PA area
• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
