WTVD (ABC11) Community Engagement Intern, Fall 2024

About the Role & Program

The Internship Program with the ABC11 Community Engagement Department is crafted to provide one student with a general understanding of the many facets of Community Engagement within the fast-paced media industry!

As an intern on this team, you will work in a professional environment, and you will gain hands-on experience. As the intern for Community Engagement at ABC11, you will be exposed to station-corporate initiatives and events originated by ABC11. You will also be provided with a view of all aspects of television long-form production and operations in the Community Engagement department. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station!

What You Will Do

Some of your projects with the WTVD (ABC11) Community Engagement team may include:
• Attend community engagement meetings (virtual & in-person)
• You will assist with the production of the station's campaigns & initiatives
• Assist with studio and taped long-form productions
• Work on Social media engagement and write PSA & digital copy
• Interaction via Zoom calls, email, and phone with our ABC11 community and corporate partners,
• Connecting with community-based non-profit organizations, and the great communities that interact with and are supported by ABC11.

Required Qualifications & Skills
• Curiosity about pursuing a career in television/multi-media field
• A hard-working professional who is an organized multitasker who strives to competently balance different tasks.
• Are equipped with a strong, ongoing knowledge of long-form TV & video production
• A courteous candidate who is responsible with outstanding attention to detail, professional demeanor, and strong work ethic.
• Flexible and adaptable in environments
• Experience with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Outstanding phone etiquette along with written and verbal communication skills.
• Social media proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in community engagement, corporate citizenship & social responsibility, event planning, or social media/branding a plus.
• Major or previous coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major
• Proficient in Zoom meeting coordination

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
• Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information
• Be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• The approximate dates of this internship are August 2024 through January 2025
• All candidates must be willing to work 20 hours/week (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor)
• Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Durham, North Carolina area
• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work in the North Carolina area
