WABC-TV (ABC7) Weather Internship – Spring 2022

WABC-TV, the flagship Disney/ABC – owned television station in New York, is the most-watched television station in the New York Television market and the United States. WABC also leads the market in station digital properties and has the highest social media engagement.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life…
Interns essentially track severe and tropical weather, monitor digital/social media and interact with the public under the direction of the weather department. As an intern you will gain introductory hands-on experience with industry leading and state-of-the-art weather technology, including as WSI MAX Storm weather graphics system and Baron Fastrac/VIPIR radar platforms. Additionally, will obtain thorough knowledge of duties and responsibilities of a broadcast meteorologist and have an opportunity to tape mock weathercasts for future resume tape. Applicants must be currently enrolled in college and supply written verification of eligibility to receive academic credit for the internship at the start of the internship. Additionally, applicants must be able to work at least two days per week and the hours may vary depending on scheduling and may include some weekend and early morning and evening hours

As well as…
• All students must possess unrestricted work authorization.
• All students must be at least 18 years old.
• At the time of application, must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter prior to participating in the program – OR – be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months - OR - be currently participating in a Disney Professional Internship.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Junior or Senior-level standing
• Enrolled in broadcast meteorology or journalism related studies

Additional Information:
• All candidates must be eligible to work in the US
• All candidates must be at least 18 years old
• All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, classified as a Junior or Senior
• All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session

Program Dates
• All candidates must be available from January 2022 through May/June 2022
• All candidates must be available to work 16-24 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
• All students must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
• All students must provide a consistent, reliable work schedule during the session
