Job Description

The MarTech Engineering Team at Disney Streaming Services is responsible for creating software solutions for Disney+ and ESPN+ marketing teams. We use tagging, targeting, testing, and feedback to optimize the marketing spend and efficacy of creative content for both paid and lifecycle engagement messaging.

The Scala Engineer, Customer Data Portal will participate in the creation of internally-facing web applications for marketing professionals. This includes tools for managing the workflow of marketing campaigns, data & asset flow between internal & external sources, and supporting a variety of marketing use-cases.

You will have the opportunity to work on interesting projects using Scala, Kafka / Kinesis, and Dynamo with the aim to build software that is distributed, reactive, and scalable. You Scala & JVM experience with web application engineering on commercial projects. You'll work with a team of other Scala developers alongside data engineers, frontend engineers and project managers.

Responsibilities:
• Scala developer on internally-facing web applications
• Code review & instruction
• Collaboration with stakeholders, frontend developers, data engineering

Basic Qualifications:

2-4+ years of commercial experience building web applications in Scala

Familiarity with functional programming

Experience creating scalable and reactive web applications with modern frameworks like Akka / play

Experience performing technical maintenance and troubleshooting for complex systems

Understanding of software development fundamentals

Experience with writing unit, integration and functional tests

Experience working in a modern, agile software team with version control & project management tools (eg Github, SVN, Jira, Basecamp)

Preferred Qualifications:

We'd love to see some prior experience with (or a willingness to learn) the Lightbend Reactive Platform, but any JVM (Scala, Java, Clojure) or Functional Language (Haskel, Lisp, Scheme) background is great!

Marketing technology stacks including dashboards, reporting, and marketing workflows.

Experience with cloud hosting deployment, such as AWS

Building resilient applications that handle failure gracefully

Full-stack experience in a Scala & React application development environment

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field), or equivalent work experience
