JOB SCHEDULE: Full-Time

JOB LOCATION: West Hollywood, CAReporting to the SVP, Business Affairs, the individual in this position will negotiate and draft agreements for Showtime's original programs as more fully set forth below. The individual initially will not have primary responsibility for development projects and on air original programming, but will support the Business Affairs SVPs on their projects as well as miscellaneous work for the EVP, Business Affairs. The individual will be responsible for providing legal advice in areas related to his/her projects such as labor, ancillary rights, contracts, production, clearances, oversight of the administration ancillary to contractual obligations, etc.

This individual will:

Support the team on development projects, primarily by drafting and executing agreements for any deals made for rights, writers, producers, directors and actors in connection with the development and production of Original Programming.

Synthesize complex deal points and reduce them to clear, effective contract language.

Anticipating the practical implication for development, production and marketing of provisions requested by talent representatives is essential, as is the skills to interact seamlessly with and gather input from executives in the creative, production, business affairs administration and finance departments.

Assist with ongoing productions, including clearance, production legal supervision, above-the-line labor issues, actor test options and writing staff deals.

Assist with rights inquiries, quitclaims, marketing inquiries and gathering information for other departments.

The individual is responsible for knowing company legal policy on a significant number of different transactions and determining whether accommodating talent asks would violate policy and furthermore, should be able to decide which accommodations need to be escalated to the SVP's or EVP to gain their input. The individual must be a good judge of the relative urgency of myriad production and clearance issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Legal Knowledge: A strong background in contract law, intellectual property law, tort law, media law and constitutional first amendment law.

Industry Knowledge: A good understanding of the television industry, with a focus on premium television is required. Familiarity with different forms of exhibition and licensing in the digital arena is desired.

Personal Skills: Strong drafting skills. Strong management and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with senior management.

Decision-making: Must be able to utilize knowledge and experience to exercise sound business judgment and make independent decisions.

Must have a minimum of two to four years' experience (and preferably with experience in either motion picture/television legal affairs).

JD is required.
