Job Description

As a Media Streaming Engineer, you will work as an individual contributor in a small and dynamic team of engineers responsible for designing and implementing software based tools to assist operators in the Media Delivery department in efficiently managing and monitoring the state of our video ingest pipeline. You will ensure that our internal hardware and software systems are functioning properly, provide training and support, and contribute to the creation of documentation of operational procedures. Department leads will look to you, and this team, to provide recommendations on ways to improve our workflows with ideas for new types of tooling and analysis of our ingest pipeline. This position requires a highly skilled individual with strong creative and analytic skills.

Responsibilities:

Development of software tools and scripts
Research and discovery
Maintenance and support of hardware systems
Documentation and training

Basic Qualifications:

BA/BS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Expert in Linux, Mac and Windows environments

Advanced Linux BASH scripting experience

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language, Python preferred

Comfortable modifying and contributing to xml/json schema

Knowledge of video codecs and compression, specifically H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC

Good understanding of ABR streaming, specifically HLS

Knowledge of video fundamentals

Experience with open source encoding software such as FFMPEG or GStreamer

Experience working with media encoding platforms

Comfortable acting as a technical lead to other departments to address and resolve problems

Comfortable working with DSS staff around the country.

Strong multi-tasking abilities.

Strong communication skills
