Senior Software Engineer - Computer Vision and Machine Learning Systems

Helping our members understand if they'll enjoy a piece of content via personalized media assets including images, video trailers, synopses and other metadata is a critical part of this mission.

The Creative Algorithm Engineering team, which is responsible for algorithmic generation and personalized selection of Netflix media assets, is looking for a senior software engineer with experience in the machine learning(ML) and/or computer vision (CV) domain to design and develop scalable infrastructure for that effort. This infrastructure will be used by our researchers to develop CV, audio, and natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to analyze and transform our raw media sources into a diverse set of assets such as artwork, video trailers, and metadata. Our team's involvement in the entire asset life cycle, from generation to recommendation, brings a unique opportunity to participate in developing new holistic ideas in the space and deliver a better experience for our members worldwide.

As a member of the team, here are the types of things you might do:
• Design and develop infrastructure for the full cycle of machine learning in the multimedia domain, such as data processing, feature extraction, distributed GPU-based model training, deploying the produced models, and A/B testing
• Work closely with research scientists as well as partner and customer teams, both technical and non-technical, to help define and prioritize system requirementsParticipate in algorithm development and propose scalable designs
• Build web services that are used to perform media analysis and serve resulting data at scale

What we are looking for
• 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
• Passion for turning ideas into products and improving the member experience
• Skills in OO programming (Python, Java, or C++)
• Familiarity with ML and/or CV pipelines
• Excellent communication and people engagement skills
• Experience with large-scale distributed data processing systems, cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, and container systems such as Docker

Even better if you have experience with
• Building end-to-end multimedia and/or CV systems and algorithms
• Deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras and PyTorch, and CV and NLP libraries such as OpenCV and spaCy
• Functional programming languages such as Scala
