Job Description

KTXL/FOX40 is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to be a part of our Broadcast Engineering Department. This opportunity allows the qualified applicant to expand their career in the field of broadcast television including network and infrastructure support in the operations of KTXL/FOX40.

MAJOR PURPOSE: To maintain and repair technical equipment and computer-based systems associated with the operation of KTXL to the standards of the management of KTXL.
• Troubleshoot and repairs of electronic and mechanical equipment that is required for the operation of KTXL
• To perform preventative maintenance as necessary on our electronic and mechanical equipment
• To work with the Engineering Staff to ensure proper operation of the station with optimum quality and conform with all FCC and FAA rules and regulations
• To work closely with the other departments in the maintenance and operation of their associated equipment
• To prioritize the repair and replacement of equipment
• Have in-depth knowledge of computer networking, cabling, software installation, and repairs
• Assist in troubleshooting and repairs of our computer/server based operations
• To update and install various software and hardware packages in computer based equipment
• Additional duties as assigned

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to understand the operation of the KTXL broadcast air-chain
• General knowledge and understanding of UHF transmitter, ENG, SNG and RF microwave systems
• General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the FCC
• Use and knowledge of specialized and standard test equipment
• Advanced computer skills preferred
• This position requires an ''on call'' status when emergencies or breakdown of critical equipment occurs to the operation of KTXL
• Maintain and update the spare parts inventory and ordering of replacement parts as needed
• Must have the ability to make decisions and take prompt action independently
• Must be able to work alone and unsupervised when necessary
• Must have attention to detail with great accuracy
• Ability to understand and teach the operation of some technical equipment to persons in other departments of KTXL
• Operation of company vehicles must be done with the safety of the operator, other personnel and general public in mind, according to the guidelines of KTXL

• Must have good people skills in order to work with end-users , other engineers, and other departments

Specialized Requirements
• General Safety
• Knowledge of OSHA Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of Hazardous Material Handling (MSDS) Procedures
• Knowledge of Hotwork documentation

Physical Demands
• Physical ability and dexterity to work on small delicate components without damage to surrounding electronic parts and/or circuit boards; must use hands to do simple grasping, pushing, pulling
• Required to stand and sit for long periods of time
• Must be able to bend at the neck and waist
• Must be able to drive, squat, climb, reach above shoulder level; lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to occasionally climb ladders in building, on trucks, and to access equipment on the roof of the building as needed
• Some local travel may be necessary

Work Environment
• Work performed primarily in Engineering shop, studio, outside premises, transmitter, and office environment
• May be exposed to the following conditions: heat/cold, dust, moving machinery, loud noises, height, confined spaces, electrical equipment

Qualifications:
• Minimum 2-3 year technical degree in electronics or broadcast along with experience in the maintenance and repair of computer, networking, and commercial television equipment
