Job Description
WPIX is looking for an up-and-coming intern, perfect for current college students looking to develop their skills. Position responsibilities will vary with schedules and assignments but could include writing for broadcast and digital platforms, shooting and editing video, managing the assignment desk and monitoring emergency scanners, contributing to newscasts and helping to assist in daily news gathering and development. The right candidate will be driven to succeed, have a strong attention to detail and an eagerness to learn all the aspects of broadcast and digital journalism. Essential Duties
• Evaluate news leads and tips to develop and pitch story ideas that are relevant to the local community
• Gather and verify accurate information about newsworthy events by interview, investigation, or observation for digital and newscast presentations
• Use various digital and social platforms to give updates and share news stories with the public
• Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions
• Monitor assignments and emergency communication to assignment desk crews to cover spot news
• Check reference materials such as news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
• Interact with viewers/users on social media sites
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills
• Progress towards Bachelors' degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Proficiency with research skills
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Promote teamwork and maintain attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
• Flexibility to work multiple shifts including nights and weekends (if a current college student, academic schedule will be considered)
