Senior Reporter, PEOPLE
Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
This New York-based senior reporter is a nimble, tenacious journalist who will write and report across all areas of entertainment for PEOPLE. This reporter will help identify and cover news stories, providing original reporting and tapping into their contacts and sources to help PEOPLE publish deeply reported celebrity content and book exclusive interviews.
The ideal candidate is a true team player with a strong sense of urgency, a network of industry contacts, great writing skills, and a keen eye for news and journalism ethics. The senior reporter will work closely with the West Coast Executive Editor to help identify and cover stories (often breaking) that require original reporting and will contribute to or write several stories a day on people.com, write stories for the print magazine, secure exclusive interviews, and cover entertainment events. Occasional night and weekend work will be required. The position requires someone to be based in the New York City area and have a presence in the New York office a minimum of three days per week.

65% - Reporting and writing digital-first stories, including celebrity interviews
20% - Collaborating with the West Coast Executive editor, senior editors, and news director to determine where to invest time and resources in developing news and sourcing opportunities
15% - Covering celebrity events

Education:
BA/BS or equivalent experience
Experience:
5 years minimum experience
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent writing skills, knowledge of the celebrity news landscape, an eye for a good story, and ability to work well with many people across job functions. Knowledge of analytics, SEO, and audience engagement. Celebrity contacts and the ability to make friends with anyone. Strong interviewing skills, and news instincts.

Salary: $70,000 - $100,000
