Job Description

DESCRIPTION:

Simon & Schuster Children's UK is one of the leading children's publishers in the UK, dedicated to immersing children of all ages in diverse and creative reading experiences, encouraging a lifelong love of reading and has a record of continuously strong sales and many prestigious awards. It was founded in 1998, and since then has published numerous high quality and bestselling titles and series. We are the proud publishers of global superstars Cassandra Clare and Rachel Renée Russell, home-grown bestsellers such as Ben Miller, Michelle Harrison, Abi Elphinstone and Sue Hendra & Paul Linnet, and rising stars including Nadia Shireen, Danielle Jawando and Jenni Spangler. Simon & Schuster has been shortlisted and highly commended for Children's Publisher of the Year in the Bookseller Industry Awards.

Job Profile:

We're looking for a talented Commissioning Editor to join our dynamic children's fiction team. In the role you'll help us in our mission to seek out and acquire the most exciting and distinctive talent, thinking outside the box and beyond the traditional channels to publish and champion books and authors with a clear vision, creatively, commercially and profitably.

The Role:

You'll work across the fiction list from young fiction to the hottest YA, with an impressive roster of established S&S authors as well as commissioning new voices and acquiring strategically for our boutique non-fiction list. You'll drive projects from acquisition, through the editorial process taking books from manuscript to publication and beyond, liaising closely with design, sales, marketing, PR and production teams, with author/illustrator care and the child reader front of mind. You'll nurture strong relationships with agents, author and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

If you have experience in commissioning and editing commercially successful books, we'd love to hear from you, but it's not essential that you have worked in children's fiction publishing. You must be driven, ambitious, creative and passionate about children's books, with an eye for detail, strong communication skills and a strong instinct for the next big thing. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be open to learning and development. We have big plans for our children's list: we're at the start of an exciting phase of growth, and we'd love you to be part of that.

Closing Date: 29 September 2020 at 17:30
