Job Description

As television and media habits change, our mission remains true to the principles that founded Discovery – every day we seek to ignite people’s curiosity to engage, entertain and enlighten the world around them through amazing viewing experiences. We aim to bring the world home to them.

The Direct To Consumer Group is a technology company within the broader Discovery brand. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all of our network’s brands globally. We are building modern container-based micro-services operated on AWS. Our platform covers everything from search, catalogue, video transcoding, personalization, to global subscriptions, and really much more. We build user experiences ranging from classic lean-back viewing to interactive learning applications. We build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of Discovery owned networks. (Discovery, Food Network, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, DPlay, and many more) This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to Discovery’s future.

Discovery’s Global Identity team have created an Affiliate integration platform to enable Discovery to build partnership deals with mobile phone providers, cable providers, internet service providers, and other companies to bundle our direct to consumer products with an affiliate product (e.g. phone service, cable package, internet subscription) in a shared account management solution where both companies maintain a relationship with this customer. This platform is being used by multiple Discovery business groups worldwide to fuel rapid customer acquisition through strategic affiliate partnerships.

We are hiring a leader for our affiliate integration team. The ideal candidate has a track record of balancing strategic investments with heavy operational focus. You have mastered the ability to delegate both tasks, and larger assignments to your team, and ensure that the right results are achieved even without your constant oversight. You are comfortable working across business groups including business development, mergers & acquisitions, finance, and tech. You are a point of escalation for critical business functions, and you have a reputation as good decision maker to resolve issues, harmonize discordant views, and align teams around a common outcome. You have experience owning decisions that impact the bottom line, and may have had oversight for a substantial cost center or P&L in the past.

Expectations
• You have demonstrated exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Your documents, presentations, and reports are referred to as examples of highly effective communication. You can easily communicate with all parts of the organization, being able to adapt to the recipient’s knowledge level and background. You are often called upon to facilitate communication across functional boundaries.

• You lead by example and do not consider yourself above individual contributor work. You are comfortable teaching best practices by showing people, not just telling people. Teams follow your lead because you are an inspirational leader, because you are right, and because you can show everyone high quality examples of your own work.

• You exert product influence over one or more departments: you make entire departments more productive with your contributions and leadership. You combine exemplary communication skills, business understanding, product knowledge, and process best practices to improve your department and act as a role model for how things should be done.

• You have played a leadership position overseeing a substantial P&L or cost center in a strategic product role, business leadership position, Finance position, or business operations position demonstrating success in growing the business.

Preferred Skills
• Data literacy: you are experienced in making data driven decisions and you have experience in detailed data analysis yourself.

• Technical literacy: you have acquired technical knowledge as a matter of course in one or more prior roles and you would do so again if regularly interacting with product engineering teams within a specific space

• Info Sec literacy: you have experience in working with information security teams, compliance teams, and/or legal teams to understand how to enforce corporate policies, regulatory concerns by region (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, COPPA)
• Experience with technical account management teams, mergers and acquisitions, or business development functions within a large corporate environment.

Requirements
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States
