Editorial Manager, Product Writing

Job Description

The Netflix Product Writing team touches every title that appears on the Netflix service, crafting engaging, accurate synopses and other custom copy to help members find the best entertainment for them. This role is an opportunity to help a talented group of writers develop their skills and expand their impact. As Netflix grows, we need managers who can coach their direct reports in international expertise, cross-functional collaboration and business acumen. We look for managers who can successfully advocate for writers with creative and non-creative partners so that the team can contribute their best work to the member experience.

We're seeking a people manager with experience leading writing teams and working closely with domestic and international stakeholders. You will join a team of three managers who oversee a large, interdependent group of experienced entertainment writers and editors working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment. You will be a creative sounding board for your team, holding them to high editorial standards while also expanding their business impact.

The ideal candidate has a passion for people management. Your managerial skills include experience managing remote and in-office employees, building a team profile, and guiding cross-functional relationships. You possess an astute appreciation for the discipline of writing, and you're able to clearly communicate the impact of language in user experiences -- whether you're speaking to fellow writers or software engineers. You place a high value on healthy team culture, inclusivity and broad cultural IQ.

This manager will lead writers focused on content from APAC and Southeast Asia. The team is multilingual, but is responsible for producing pristine copy in English. A manager with APAC/SEA language skills is a plus, and an appreciation for entertainment from this region is a must. The role is located in our Los Angeles office and (when travel is safe) requires travel to our regional offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Mumbai and Seoul.

This is a full-time, salaried role reporting to the Product Writing Manager based in Los Gatos, California.

Qualifications
• 7 to 10 years management experience: hiring, training, coaching and supervising writers
• Exceptional ability in short-form writing and editing
• Outstanding communication and people skills
• Experience working in international business
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills
• Ease learning content management systems

Good-to-haves
• Experience working in a studio, network or other entertainment production environment
• Product management experience
• Proficiency in languages other than English
• Experience managing content in languages other than English
