Job Description
WWD, fashion's leading global publication covering business, fashion, beauty, retail and culture, is seeking a Weekend Editor to cover West Coast business, retail and fashion news and trending news on weekends, and assist with editing on weekends. The position requires a seasoned journalist who thrives on building readership through an SEO-driven approach, digging out scoops and exclusives and has a demonstrated interest in covering business, retail and fashion for a worldwide audience. The right candidate thinks creatively, critically and analytically about metrics-based strategies that attract readers. This role is based in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
• Write and report business, retail and fashion stories and features under West Coast Bureau Chief
• Write stories and build galleries on Weekends based on trending celebrity, style, and fashion news
• Edit and post breaking news on evening East Coast hours and weekends
• Monitor real-time trending news and flag relevant topics for coverage
• Produce a minimum of 8 stories and/or galleries a day on weekends
• Post breaking news on WWD social platforms on weekends
• Able to edit writers of diverse skill levels for consistency, accuracy, and relevancy
• Help editors in producing newsletters and other products on weekends
• Help the overall team to achieve certain qualitative and quantitative goals
• Work with Executive Digital Director on all awards show and special event coverage on weekends
• Works Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. PT
• Attend fashion and industry events as needed
Requirements:
• 3-5 years of journalism experience as a reporter and editor
• Understanding of the fashion and retail industries as well as popular culture
• Works well under pressure
• Analytical thinker
• Team player

• Willingness to learn
• News junkie
• Curious writer who enjoys staying on top of fashion, retail, and entertainment news
Skills:
• Ability to write clean copy and strong headlines quickly
• Familiarity with Canva and Photoshop
• Strong grasp of AP Style
• Excellent SEO skills
• Expertise in building stories and galleries for optimal performance in Wordpress
• Strong reporting and writing skills with demonstrated business reporting ability
Typical Salary: 69K-79K. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
