About WVLT:
WVLT is located in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to producing 50 hours of newscasts each week on CBS affiliate WVLT, the station takes advantage of its co-owned CW-affiliate to expend its news audience by producing two hours of additional weekday morning news and nightly 10 p.m. newscasts.
At the door step of the Smoky Mountains and on the banks of the Tennessee River, Knoxville is home the competitive 60th largest television market in the country. In addition to being home to the University of Tennessee's flagship campus, Knoxville sports a walkable downtown, sophisticated mix of culture and cuisine, a diverse and robust employment sector, advanced medical care, and amenities found in big cities yet in a city that retains a small town feel.
Job Summary/Description:
WVLT is looking for a creative and passionate producer who is ready to deliver urgent, important, and unique content to a multiplatform audience. The ideal candidate must be able to work under pressure and meet daily deadlines in a high-energy environment. We are looking for a producer who is a conversational writer with a good eye for graphics and other visuals to tell the stories that matter to East Tennessee.
Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Produce live newscast(s) daily
- Select content and write scripts
- Communicate with anchors, reporters , assignment desk, field crews, editors, and others to ensure execution of a high-quality newscast
- Produce live breaking news and special event coverage
- Write stories for all digital platforms
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
• Clear, concise, conversational writing skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Solid news judgement
• Strong journalistic ethics
• Make quick, accurate decisions and work well under pressure
• Team player attitude
• Desire to win
