About WSAW:WSAW is Wausau's first TV station, debuting in 1954. It is a CBS affiliated station that serves northcentral Wisconsin. Northcentral Wisconsin is known for its agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare and the area is a tourism destination.
WZAW is Wausau's FOX affiliate and home of ''Packer Football'' airing more Packer regular season games than all other stations combined. WZAW produces local newscasts M-F at 4:00pm and 9:00pm.
Job Summary/Description:
The ideal candidate will have experience managing a department and will have well-rounded knowledge of covering collegiate, local and professional sports. They'll need to have the ability to produce sportscasts as well as sports programming. The ideal candidate will go beyond highlights to produce thoughtful and relevant sports feature packages. This position also requires that the candidate be a self-starter, adaptable to change and possess the ability to manage schedules, make story assignments, arrange travel, and manage sports content on our website and other social media. The position will include weekend shifts during the NCAA and NFL seasons and requires the candidate have the ability to travel.
Experience or familiarity with Wisconsin or Wausau sports, and familiarity with ENPS, Grass Valley Edius, Sony XDCAM cameras and Arc Publishing are preferred.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit sports/news stories for on-air broadcasting.
- Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.
- Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
- Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
- Develop sources that allow you to break stories.
- Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
- Superior on-air presence with at least three years as Sports Anchor/Reporting
- Supervising experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills. -Flexibility to work any shift
- Must be able to carry 35 pounds of gear
- Must be able to operate live backpack unit
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
