Job Description
WSAV-TV in beautiful Savannah, GA is looking to fill one of the few entry level News and Production positions that still exist in this size market. This job is perfect for a recent graduate or student of film and television, mass communications or journalism that has great training and skills but little professional experience. This job has proven to be a foot in the door of broadcasting and has led many to promotions and opportunities in the field. Great advancement potential into a full time position in news, marketing or production.
• Primary job duties are editing news stories using the Bit Central desktop NLE Newsroom Video System and Adobe Premiere. If you are an expert editor on one of the other popular NLE packages, you'll have no trouble learning this desktop NLE system. You'll get scripts for stories and assemble them from raw footage into finished pieces for air under tight and strict deadlines. Turnaround is quick. Sometimes you'll only have a couple of minutes to make decisions to get material edited and on air. Your shift begins hours before the newscast airs. You'll be working weekends, middle of the night, early in the morning and holidays.

But this is just the beginning.
Other duties include operating studio equipment and teleprompter for newscasts during your editing shift. You'll need great computer skills on Windows PC's to operate the teleprompter and the AP ENPS Newsroom software. Some experience with wireless microphones needed. Everything audio in our studio is wireless. You'll learn to check operation of all studio equipment such as robotic cameras, video wall displays, production automation and graphics systems, green screens and LED studio lighting and controllers.

Candidates that show strong photography skills will be given opportunities to for shoot news, sports and marketing providing a possible path to full time employment as a news photographer.

Requirements & Skills:
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Expert knowledge working with Windows PC's, various Non-Linear Editing Software, Professional Video and DSLR Cameras.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Some skills working in a TV studio - Lighting - Green Screens - Teleprompter - Studio Lighting Controllers and LED Lights - Wireless Audio Gear

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Production Assistant must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, and make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions or outdoors during remote broadcasts. In addition, the Production Assistant must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Must be able to climb 12' ladder. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
