News Producer

Job Description

WLUK News Producers work as a team to provide news and information to Northeast Wisconsin.
Our Producers are leaders in the newsroom. Each day you will determine the important stories of the day. Using creative story-telling and professional journalism principles you will craft a newscast that viewers rely on. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day production of our newscasts. This position will also work closely with the Executive Producer, Director, Assignment Desk and Anchors on the newscast and its content. In this position you will determine the content and flow of newscasts. Your work will primarily focus on our broadcast platform but we will also train you to contribute content daily on our digital and social platforms.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Understand the importance of news to our community
• Be a compelling and accurate writer
• Be able to multitask and manage time in order to put together an exciting and informative newscast
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• The drive to find new angles and look for creative ways to tell our stories.
• Flexibility and on-the-spot problem solving abilities are a must
• Ability to learn and operate multiple software programs
• WLUK offers extensive training for the successful candidate

Experience:
• A degree in Journalism or Communications or a related field
• Experience in college with television/radio production and/or writing for university periodicals
• Experience with digital content creation is a plus
• A newsroom internship is a plus
