Job Summary/Description:
WJHG is looking for an enterprising, independent multi-media journalist for our Jackson County bureau. If you have a passion for building connections and covering the local community, then this is for you! This job is for a self-starter who can work remotely from home, and can cover multiple counties in our mostly rural communities.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Enterprising, organizing, coordinating and delivering content daily for our Mon-Fri newscasts.
- Cultivating sources and connections in several panhandle counties, including Jackson, Washington, Holmes, Calhoun and Liberty.
- Ability to shoot, write, and edit all content remotely, from home or field, while reporting to main station on an as-needed basis.
- Strong live reporting skills and ability to conduct live shots independently through use of TVU.
- Strong organizational skills, keeping track of local events and meetings, and pitching stories daily in coverage area.
- Must turn news content for multiple platforms, including on air, web, and social media.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field.
- Prior professional experience reporting, producing, writing, or shooting news is preferred.
- Must be highly organized, on time, and able to work quickly under deadlines.
- Strong professional social media skills.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Solid technical and computer skills, and understanding of how content is turned on multiple media platforms.
