WHSV has just been named ''Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias'' by the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters! We are located in Harrisonburg, Virginia situated in the Shenandoah Valley. Our team produces nearly 30 hours of local news each week. We strive to bring our viewers the best content on all platforms. Harrisonburg is a thriving community located two hours from Washington, DC and Richmond. We are the area's ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates.

Job Summary/Description:

If you are a team player and love news, this is the job for you. This newly created position on our morning show ''Daybreak'' allows you to be heavily involved with content. Do you like a job that allows you to ''do it all''? If so, WHSV has an exciting opportunity on our morning newscast ''Daybreak''! This role allows you to get a taste of producing, reporting and anchoring on both broadcast and digital. Here's an overview...

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Begin your day assisting our overnight news producer by putting the finishing touches on the newscast
- Ensure our website and social media platforms are updated and fresh, ready for our viewers to look at them as they begin their day
- Listen to the scanner and monitor our social media accounts for breaking news
- Share breaking news reporting responsibilities with our other morning reporter
- Front stories from the studio as assigned by the producer
- Operate our First Alert (OTT) Desk. Co-host ''Daybreak After Hours'' (a daily Facebook Live event updating our viewers on the day's news headlines and weather forecast)
- Report on a story ''today'' that will air on the following morning's Daybreak newscast. Must be able to shoot, write and edit your own stories (MMJ style).

Qualifications/Requirements:
- A Broadcast Communications/Journalism degree
- Strong editing skills and a concise, journalistic writing style as well as the ability to respond swiftly to breaking news and unfolding events are a must
- Must be a ''morning person''. This shift is from 4:00a.m.-1:00p.m. Monday-Friday
- Must be a self-motivator, able to meet tight deadlines
- Having strong verbal and written communication skills are a MUST!
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Demonstrates good news judgment and decision making
- Maintain a positive attitude and work environment
- Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle background check
