WGNO-TV in New Orleans is looking for a Weekend Meteorologist who is passionate about forecasting tropical systems and tracking severe weather. New Orleans is the major league capital of tropical weather coverage. This is why weather is a critical need for our viewers. The public's safety is a vital concern for us, and we take our responsibility very seriously.
We want someone who is accurate, who knows how to show urgency without over-hyping, and can stay cool under pressure. You must be able to ad-lib with little information for extended amounts of time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Produce and present weather segments in our weekend evening newscasts and our digital and social media channels.
• Fill in during the week when our morning or evening meteorologists are off.
• Assist the primary meteorologists with preparing, producing, and posting content for their show segments.
• Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
• Work closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
• Participate in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Write web stories detailing the local forecast daily.
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
Requirements & Skills:
• Degree in meteorology or on track to graduate soon.
• Superior on-air presence
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.
