WFAA is conducting a national search for an Investigative Executive Producer to transform and lead our team of award-winning investigative journalists. This leader should be ready to tackle any story, develop and maintain critical sources and break news. We are looking for an executive producer who embraces modern storytelling techniques to ensure our team remains on the cutting edge in both substance and style.

The ideal candidate will have a history of producing recognized investigative journalism both in changing laws and standards. We want a candidate with a proven track record.

The executive producer will be responsible for the editorial management of the unit and is its operational leader. This person should be a skilled project manager capable of managing short and long-term projects while ensuring all investigative work represents the highest standards of journalism.

Responsibilities:
• Work with news director to set the team's strategic priorities
• Manage investigative staff as they cultivate sources and information to report on stories that serve the public interest
• Manage production, editorial and innovation of investigative stories for all broadcast and digital platforms
• Mentor journalists to help grow their investigative skills
• Create structures and systems to increase the frequency of in-depth investigations including supporting our strong team of general assignment reporters
• Identify and pitch investigative angles on big daily news stories as well as long-term enterprise stories that are highly promotable and will bring about change
• Guide process of story selection and execution for the team
• Work closely with producers, reporters, and photographer/editors in production of stories
• Collaborate with WFAA leadership on investigative involvement in overall coverage opportunities
• Coordinate calendar with leadership team and marketing department for promotions
• Assist management team by participating in daily editorial meetings and communicating the investigative team's availability and role in day-to-day news coverage
• Manage the shooting and editing calendar to ensure all resources are used effectively
• Work closely with news director and legal team to ensure stories meet ethical and legal standards
• Make digital and social media a priority from the first stages of production
• Assist with breaking news when necessary, including producing investigative angles to developing stories
• Advanced understanding of the concepts of journalistic ethics and media law, including fair use and public records
• Meet deadlines for critical legal review
• Active social and digital presence

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field
• Minimum 5 years of professional investigative journalism or related experience
• Understand the tenets and ethics of professional journalism
• Must have strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
• B.A. degree or equivalent in areas such as Journalism & Communications, or related field.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to utilize technology to help improve project efficiencies
• An appreciation for different leadership and communication styles needed to manage and motivate a talented team

Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
