WDTV/WVFX is located in beautiful north central West Virginia, about 90 minutes south of Pittsburgh, and 30 minutes south of Morgantown. West Virginia in general is comprised of several small cities and very rural in nature making it a great small town family atmosphere.

Job Summary/Description:

WDTV/WVFX market is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer in a full-time position. This position requires a full knowledge of station operations and its technical layout, with a strong emphasis on engineering as it relates to modern broadcast TV businesses. Candidates must possess good interpersonal communications skills, both oral and written, and be fully computer literate. Comprehensive knowledge of RF signals, transmission mechanics, mechanical engineering, and studio technical equipment operation is a necessity. Duties include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast and IT equipment including transmitter equipment located at our remote sites throughout the service area.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Maintenance of the technical facility including studio support, post editing systems, field production support and transmission of live/taped events & programs.
• Work closely with the station's staff and corporate leadership to implement new technologies for the business as a whole.
• Ensure all transmission equipment is operating correctly.
• Help maintain documentation.
• Assist with the training of other members of the Engineering Department and the station in general.
• Display and maintain appropriate dress for the workplace and duties assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Have knowledge regarding equipment, technology, along with including RF, microwave and transmission systems.
• Must have a background with previous work experience in TV Broadcast Engineering.
• Practical knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal system down time.
• An understanding of high-power Radio Frequency systems, including Microwave and UHF TV Transmitters.
• Work comfortably using the latest operating systems software, including networking, server and desktop operating systems
• Able to work alone at times.
• Ability to work under inclement weather conditions. Travel via snowmobile/ATV to remote locations.
• Technical skills with the ability to diagnose and repair to the board or electrical component levels.
• Familiarity with cable fabrication techniques, including XLR, BNC, RJ45 and similar ethernet connectors.
• Able to safely handle equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds.
• Availability to occasionally work outside of normal daytime hours.
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license.
• Meet Gray corporate's pre-employment requirements, which includes among other things, passing the background check, verifying full COVID-19 vaccination status, etc.
